Monday, 07 September 2009

MADISON – Operators of all terrain vehicles (ATV) now have a convenient online method to receive ATV Safety Certification through an Internet Web page introduced by the state Department of Natural Resources. “This should prove very beneficial to young adult operators and out-of-state operators who need ATV Safety Certification,” said Gary Eddy, DNR all-terrain vehicle administrator. All operators at least age 12 and born on or after Jan. 1, 1988 must complete an ATV Safety Certification course in order to operate on public ATV trails and areas in Wisconsin. “The internet course may not be for everyone. Parents will have to gauge whether an internet course is the best fit for their child. For some students, young and old, a classroom course with instructors and hands-on learning may be a better fit,” said Eddy. Both courses provide basic information on how to operate an ATV safely and responsibly, but they don’t make you an expert rider. The Internet course is available at www.offroad-ed.com/wi. Check the DNR’s Upcoming Recreational Safety Education Classes Web page to find classroom courses available around the state. http://dnr.wi.gov/org/caer/ce/news/DNRNews_Lookup.asp?id=116#art11 Students must continue to practice what they’ve learned in their ATV Safety Course and parents need to reinforce what has been taught.”

FOR MORE INFORMATION CONTACT: Gary Eddy, All-Terrain Vehicle Administrator, (608) 267-7455 or Karl Brooks, DNR Law Enforcement – (608) 266-7820

Tuesday, 25 January 2011

Recently, the Dun-Good Riders Snowmobile-ATV Club donated $500 to the Goodman Fire Dept to be used toward the purchase of a Rapid Deployment Craft. The Fire Dept became aware of the need two years ago when they were called to an emergency on the Peshtigo River where they assisted the Silver Cliff Fire Dept in a successful rescue of an individual caught in the falls. Fire & EMS personnel train in ice water and swift water rescue at the White Bear Rescue Academy in Dunbar every winter. With more people taking to the frozen lakes and the outdoors for recreation, the craft will make the rescue more efficient as well as safer for the rescuer when called into action. The Fire Dept hopes to take delivery of the craft in the very near future. At a recent club meeting, Dun-Good Riders President Pat Mullarky presented the $500 donation to Goodman Fire Chief Mike Stec. Pat stated that snowmobilers and ATV’ers are grateful to all the fire & rescue workers who respond in the time of need. Cub members appreciate the time and dedication they put into serving the community. Thank You!

Pat Mullarky called the August 16, 2011 meeting to order at the North Country Inn in Dunbar at 7:00 PM. There were 17 members present at the meeting. The Secretary’s report was read and accepted. The Treasurer’s report was read and accepted. Under Old Business Pat Mullarky thanked everyone for their help on the trail cleanup for the WATVA meeting. The trails were in good shape. Pat brought up the fact that we needed a trailer with more capacity as we currently have a trailer that has a load limit of 10,000 lbs. Our skidster is 13,000 lbs. He found a 25,000 lb trailer on the internet. He asked for a motion after the discussion of whether or not we should purchase it. It passed unanimously and he placed a bid for it and was successful in acquiring the trailer. Pat had mentioned that we would cleanup our old trailer and put it up for sale. Pat also had heard about a used chipper on the internet and a bid had to be placed by Thursday. Pat also said that Tony Ziebert had a brusher for sale but it appeared we did not have the funds at this time to purchase it. Tony said he had someone else interested in it also, that way he was able to sell it to them. Joe had mentioned that they had worked on several culverts and they are working well now. It appears Kathy has everything taken care of for our open house. We could use a lot more raffle items. Patti is taking care of putting together the rules for the sponsor envelopes for the Poker Run and setting up the poker sheets. Mary Lou will look for some helpers to take care of the people who come in from the poker run and draw their cards at the OPEN HOUSE. Pat brought up whether we have tap beer or canned beer at the OPEN HOUSE, it was voted that we stick to having canned beer. The new snowmobile and ATV maps are still being worked on. The WATVA regional meeting had a very good ride on our trails. They went to twelve foot falls and were well pleased with the meeting facility and food provided for their meeting. Under New Business the club voted on having a hayride on Sunday, October 30th. There will be an RSVP for the ride. There will be an AWSC workshop at Stevens Point November 4th thru 6th. Please let Mary Lou know if you would like to attend. There is mention of a new poker run for next year that would run from May 25th till September 29th, it would be in the form of a booklet. During the members input section of the meeting Pat spoke very strongly about the new Recreational Trail signs being destroyed on the trails. He said that as long as his name was on the paper as president of the Dun-Good Riders, he felt the signs were appropriate as this would cover the clubs liability on the trails. The recreational trail signs were approved and endorsed by Marinette County with their insigia and the county decided where the signs were to be placed — not our club. Recreational trails are meant to be for ATV’s and snowmobiles only, not for trucks, motorcycles or other vehicles. Our next meeting is September 20, 2011 at Richards in Dunbar at 7:00 PM. The meeting was adjourned. Mary Lou Neumann
